to encourage exploration and give each biome a distinct feel. polar bears in snowy/ice biomes, foxes or badgers in forests, etc. Preferably this would mean biome specific animals, e.g. Being mobkit based means there is also a lot of potential for advanced behaviours and interactions between these mobs to simulate an proper ecosystem.Īs the title states, it is early days, but I am looking forward to seeing the roster of animals expand until this can serve as the de facto animal mod to populate a whole world. Better Fauna presents a very consistent feel across the various animals available, highlighting the care by ElCeejo put into designing each creature. ReviewsĪmong the best models/textures for animal mobs, especially in the terrestrial mob category. Many future updates are planned, and I gladly take suggestions. Sometimes, Animals that fit into a prior role will be added outside of a major update, such as Turkeys and Reindeer. Currently, there is the initial Livestock update, The Domestication update, and the Ambience update. This mod will be updated in themed phases. Chirping Frogs in Swamps that use their long tongues to eat bugs. Singing Birds that sick near their nests in trees and fly in beautiful flocks. Chirping Bats in caves that swarm when approached. Cats are annoying, but cute and a fun companion to keep around your house, keep your glass vessels in a safe area and be sure to play with them regularly to build trust.ĭepth: A multitude of ambient Animals add a bit of depth to your world. Horses require you to break them and saddle them, and can traverse great distances. Wolves are simple to tame and will protect you and your livestock. You can also use the Animal Net to catch Animals and check their gender, and how much they trust you (if applicable)Ĭompanionship: Animalia also adds multiple Pets with different taming methods and uses. Some Animals have visual differences to tell males from females, such as udders on female Cows, Tail feathers on Roosters, and Tusks on male Pigs. These mobs can all be lead around using their favorite food or the Lasso, and can also be bred if you have a male and female. You can even duplicate the information from one libri to an empty one by putting both the crafting area.įarming: Animalia brings multiple livestock creatures, including Cows, Sheep, and Chickens. Minetest on Raspberry Pi 3 with Experimental OpenG.WARNING: If you have any version below 0.2 installed, you'll need to manually uninstall before updating.Īnimalia adds over a dozen new Animals, each having it's own unique aspects.Įxploration: Animalia encourages you to explore and document your world's creatures with the Libri Animalia, a journal that can logs the Animals you've met and gives helpful information. The article that kicked all this off for me has lots of additional useful information. I connected to some public Minetest servers and again worked perfectly. Had Windows 10 start the server with Pi as a Client and vice versa so both options worked. Strangely with all effects enabled the Raspberry Pi graphics were better. I had local network play working between the Raspberry Pi and a Windows 10 laptop. Form the £2.50 is |a small price to pay for the full on Minetest experience on the Raspberry Pi 3 and I expect it will enable other OpenGL heavy programs to run better and for longer as well. The Pimoroni Ninja Coupe Case I have my Pi3 in has an opening for a heat sink so I splashed out the £1.00 to get one. More optimisation is expected in the OpenGL drivers which should make it even better and hopefully help with the heat/power problem.įor me I've just spent £1.50 on a fan to put on top of the heat sink I bought and the PiParty. Minetest runs really well on the Raspberry Pi already. A quick blow on the GPU and it all works again. Let's just say Minetest with the current OpenGL drivers give the GPU a complete work out and at about 80deg C rather than tipping over it protects itself. This I believe is an indicator of a power/heat issue. If you watch the video you'll see that every so often the screen goes to a lovely rainbow pattern. It's running full screen 1280x1024 and is really smooth.
